CYCLE ENTHUSIAST Fine Work at Broken Hill. The death at Broken Hill recently of Mr.J.Liddell has removed one of the greatest workers from the ranks of cycling on the Barrier. For more than 20 years Mr.Liddell did yeoman service for the game and was one of the many stalwarts who were responsible for placing cycling on such a high plane. He was an official of the League of Wheelmen for many years, and on December 31, 1931, he was made a life member of the body for services rendered. It was in connection with Morgan Street Cycle Club that Mr.Liddell was a tower of strength. In September, 1926, a band of cycling enthusiasts (which included Mr.Liddell) met at the residence of the late Mr. John Renalson and formed Morgan Street Cycle Club. Mr. Liddell was an official until it disbanded last year. He was one of the band of workers who some years ago built the cycling track on the old Pound Flat, he turning the first sod in the formation of the track. He was ever ready and willing to assist in maintaining it. On October 31, 1932, Mr. Liddell was made a life member and his gold medallion in conjunction with his League of Wheelmen medallion, were two of his most treasured possessions. His death left a gap in cycling which will be hard to fill, and he will be long remembered by all those stalwarts still connected with the sport at Broken Hill. His genial personality will be sadly missed from future cycling events. |
