- Lower Portland, was the scene of a very pretty wedding on Wednesday, 19th ultimo, when Leslie George, fifth son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Jones, of Livingstone, Colo, was married to Annie Melville, second daughter of the late Charles Gambrill (Windsor), and Mrs. Gambrill, or "Woodside" Lower Portland, and granddaughter of the late James Melville, Windsor. St. John's Church was prettily decorated for the occasion by the friends of the bride and bridegroom. Two large arches, festooned with white flowers, occupied the central space of the aisle, while from the upper arch was suspended a large white bell -the work or Mrs. and Miss Metherell. Punctually at 4 o'clock the bride-elect entered the church on the arm of her brother (Mr. Wesley C. Gambrill), whilst the organist Miss Laurel Lowe played "The voice that breathed o'er Eden." The bride looked charming, and was dressed in white crepe de chine, trimmed with chiffon and silk shadow lace. She wore a beautiful veil of real lace, richly embroidered, and a court train (kindly lent by a friend), together with a spray of orange blossoms, and she carried a shower bouquet of white cacti. There were two bridesmaids, Miss Ethel Gambrill (Burwood), sister or the bride, who wore a white cotton voile dress, and a beautiful spray brooch of pearls and rubies, the gift or the bride-groom; and Miss Perle M.Jones, sister the bridegroom, who was dressed in white embroidered muslin, and wore a beautiful bangle, the gift of the bridegroom. Mr.W.Jones, brother of the bridegroom, acted as best Man. The bride was given away by her brother and the ceremony was performed by Rev. A. P. Hanington, of St. Albans, who used for the occasion a very prettily bound bible, a gift to the bride by her mother.
At the conclusion of the ceremony the hymn "O Perfect Love" was sung by Miss Lorna Lowe, and the organist played "The Wedding March" while friends crowded round showering congratulations and confetti on the happy couple. The bride and bridegroom, together with their friends and relatives then journeyed to the home of the bride's mother, being conveyed thence by Mr.M.E.Jones in his trim launch "Flirt" and there entertained at afternoon tea. There was a splendid array of costly presents. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a heavy silver-backed brush end comb, while the bride's gift to the bridegroom was a silver shaving set, mounted on oak. The bride's going aaway dress was of wine-colored gabardine, with hat to match.

Her friends at Moorilda and Hobby's Yards, tendered the young lady a social evening on the 24th instant. The room was nicely decorated and comfortably filled. Dancing, games and music made the time pass pleasantly. He wished her the best of fortune in her future life, which sentiment the gathering heartily endorsed Mis Gambrill suitably acknowledged the gift. [4]
