AT ARMY CITADEL - GAMBRILL-HAYES WEDDING. On Saturday 23rd May the Salvation Army Citadel at Auburn was beautifully decorated by Miss Tanner, Miss Gambrll and Miss Wadley, with choice pink and white blooms, a large floral wedding bell, from which extended streamers suspended with miniature bells and birds terminating in clusters of magnolias and pink roses for the pretty wedding of Ms Alma Hayes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs E.J.Hayes of the Salvation Army Homebush and Mr.Donald Gambrill son of Mr. & Mrs.G.Gambrill of Granville. The ceremony was solemnized by Adjutant Tamina who officiated in the presence of a crowded Citadel. The Salvation Army Band played whilst the guests were assembling and the hymn "God Bless The Union," was sung as the bride entered the Citadel, to the band accompaniment. During the signing of the register, a solo was rendered by Bandsman Cyril Palmer. The bride who was given away by her father, wore the Army uniform, with pretty white wide sash ribbon and trailing orange blossom attached from the left shoulder to the right side of the waist, with bow and floral trail, and a wreath of orange blossom as headdress. She carried a bouquet of pretty white blooms. Two bridesmaids were in attendance, Ms.Muriel Gambrill (bride-groom's sister) and Miss Emma Hayes (bride's sister) who wore the uniform with pink sashes and pink shoulder posies, and silver bands on the hair clustered with pink flowers. They carried bouquets of the same colour. Bandsman Herbert Hayes (bride's brother) was best man, and Bandsman Edward Bamford, groomsman. Mrs.Hayes (bride's mother) wore the uniform and Mrs.Gambrill (bridegrooms mother) was frocked in black crepe de chine, relieved with white, and hat en suite. Mrs.Duncan (bride's sister from Homebush) wore a fawn costume and felt hat to match. Miss Enid Hayes (bride's sister), green Celanese silk and hat to match; Miss Rene Gambrill was in uniform; Mrs. Palmer (bridegroom's sister) also wore uniform; Mrs.D.F.McKay, nut brown tailleur and beret to match. After the ceremony, a reception was held at "The Caraleon" George Street, Parramatta, about 50 guests being present. The tables were effectively decorated with Iceland poppies, with the prettily ornamented pink iced wedding cake made by the bride's brother prominently placed. Adjutant Tamina presided, and the usual toasts were honored. Later the happy couple left for Katoomba and Kosciusko on their honey moon trip, and on their return will reside at Homebush. |
