- MRS. JANE SHULTZ - Mrs. Jane Shultz, a pioneer of Bulladelah, passed away at the home of her son, Samuel. She passed her 93rd anniversary of her birth on May 12, having resided in the district upwards of half a century (says the Dungog 'Chronicle'). She was born on the Williams River in 1841 and was the fourth child of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Maybury. Her father came to Australia about 1825 as a soldier on one of the sailing vessels transporting convicts. He served and was wounded at the Battle of Waterloo, was granted a piece of land somewhere in the vicinity of Hexham railway station, from the Crown. Mrs. Shultz's husband, Henry, came to Australia as a boy ten years of age. He predeceased his wife 36 years ago, and was buried with Mr. and Mrs. James Maybury at Stroud general cemetery. Mrs. Shultz, until recently, enjoyed good health. She always took an active part in life and a keen interest in gardening. Vegetables, which she had sown, are now maturing in her special garden. During the last days of her illness, her mind reverted to early history and her ramblings took her family and neighbours back to many forgotten instances, her end was peaceful. The funeral, which left her son's home. 'Rosenthal,' was a large one and proceeded to Bullahdelah general cemetery, where the interment was made. The Rev. G. Kelly. Rector of St. John's Chapel (Bullahdclah), who officiated, spoke feelingly of her noble and unselfish life. She leaves nine children to mourn their loss. Mrs Harry Masters (Raworth), William and John and Charles Henry (Bullahdelah), Samuel and Fred (Rosenthal), Mrs.Thomas Masters (Mayer's Flat), Mrs. Arthur Beisler (Nabiac), and Mrs. Charles Gooch (Bullahdelah). Albert Ernest was killed at Jarrah, near Stroud twelve years ago. Also surviving her is her half brother Mt. Samuel Richards, a nonagenarian of Bullahdclah. Of the descendant, there are 72 grand-children, and 98 great, grand-children. 179 - all living. Many of her personal pioneer friends were in attendance at the graveside. Many messages and letters of condolence were received, and a large number of wreaths were placed on the grave. [4]
- RETURN THANKS. The family of the late Jane Shultz of Bulladelah, wish to tender their most sincere thanks to all relatives and friends for kindness extended to them in their recent bereavement, also to all those who sent wreaths, cards, and other messages of sympathy. [5]
