Sir,-"We desire to express to you our hearty thanks for the publication in your Issue of the 21st instant, of the article headed "Settlement and progress obstructed by the lands department". We are some of the settlers who suffer from the shutting up of these reserves around us, and we beg to assure you that if the people of Grafton knew tho extent of rich land thus excluded from settlement, and the population it would carry, they would fully understand the loss to the district, and would take action to have the evil remedied. We desire to endorse in all particulars the statements put forward to you. In conclusion, we would remark, that on our reserves in our neighborhood which are now simply breeding grounds for all tho noxious vermin in the colony. There are valuable homes of rich lands for hundreds of families. - DIAMOND WEDDING: Gambrill - Woolcock. Seventy persons of the Methodist Church, Morisset, gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Gambrill to celebrate the diamond jubilee of the wedding. They were the first couple to be married in the St. Laurence Church, Barraba, on August 28th, 1877, the Rev. Andrew Brown being the officiating clergyman. 'Quite a number of musical items were enjoyed. Appropriate speeches were delivered by Rev. A. G. Whitten (who presided), Councilor Lean, Messrs. 0. E. Smith, A. L. Hubbard, W. Croft Wallace, and Edwin Gambrill. Mr. and Mrs. Gambrill were presented with a beautiful radiolette from their children. Mrs. 0. E. Smith, secretary of the Methodist Ladies' Church Aid, presented Mrs. Gambrill with a beautiful bouquet, and Mr. Gambrill with a choice button-hole spray. She also presented them, on behalf of the Church Aid, with a large diamond wedding cake (made by herself), with 60 lighted candles. Mr. and Mrs. Goodhew, sen., presented them with a neatly bound autograph book, in which were the signatures of everyone present. Mr. Gambrill feelingly responded, telling of their pioneering days as goldminer, butcher, fettler, sawmiller, and orchardist, and how they had shared each other's joys and sorrows with a great faith in God, in their Church, and in their native land. Mr. and Mrs. Gambrill had one daughter (Mrs. J. H. Frost), and four sons (Messrs. Darcy, George, Wallace and Edwin) present. They also have 25 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, many of whom were present.?A.G.W. [46]

DIAMOND WEDDING Mr. and Mrs. T. Gambrill. Many friends gathered at the home of M[r. and Mrs. Theodore Gambrill to celebrate the diamond jubilee of their wedding. They were the first couple to be married in St. Laurence Church, Barraba, on August 28, 1877. Rev. Andrew Brown officiated. Musical items were enjoyed. Rev. A. G. Whitten, who presided, Cr. Lean, Messrs. O. E. Smith. A. L. Hubbard, V.W.Croft, Wal and Ted Gambrill, made reference to the high esteem in which the guests were held. Mr. and Mrs. Gambrill were presented with a Radiolette from their children. Mrs. O. E. Smith, Secretary of the Methodist Ladies' Church Aid, presented Mrs. Gambrill with a bouquet, and Mr. Gambrill with a buttonhole spray. She also presented, on behalf of the Church Aid, a large diamond shaped wedding cake made by herself. Sixty candles decorated the cake. Mr. and Mrs. Goodhew, senior, presented the guests with a neatly-bound autograph book, in which were signatures of those present. Mr.Gambrill responded, and told of his early days as goldminer, butcher, fettler, sawmiller, and orchardist. A daughter (Mrs. J. H. Frost), and four sons, Messrs.
