This is the earliest Advert I have come across so far. Newspaper advert- 'New Boot Business','Boots sewn or pegged, strong or fancy, for children and adults made of best material. Repairs neatly executed.' Not sure if Richard lived here (maybe above or out the back of the place) or just rented the space for his boot making/repairs shop. The address also says 'near Catherine Street'. |

HORSES AND CATTLE - Lithgow, a warrant has been issued by the Bench for arrest of William Henry Williams, charged with stealing the mare No.12 in this weeks list, the property of Richard Gambrill, Lithgow, on the 31st ultimo. Williams is about 21 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, light fair hair, dressed in dark tweed trousers, dark sac coat, and black hard hat. Supposed to have gone to Sydney. |
