DAIRYMAN FINED Walter G. Gambrill was charged with selling milk not up to the standard at Wodonga on 28th November. Mr J.O.McHarg (representing the Inspector) prosecuted. Defendant pleaded guilty. David Albert Williams,Group Health Inspector of the Upper N.E. Health Group stated: On 28th November I approached the driver of Gambrill and Son's cart. I purchased a supply of milk and told him of my intentions. I carried out the usual practices. Subsequently I interviewed the defendant and he admitted the driver, R.Widdison, was employed by him on the date of the offence. There was no added water. The sample was high in non-fatty solids. To Mr McHarg: Such a happening could be brought about by milk being left standing and the sample drawn from the bottom of the vessel. From the floor of the court defendant stated he had no doubt regarding the result of the analysts. A probable explanation was that the sample was taken from the bottom of a very small can, in which the cream hadnt probably risen to the surface. The fact that their business had grown as it has is proof that they are giving good service and supplying good milk he contended. Defendant was fined 10/., with £2/12/6 coats. |

[TO THE EDITOR OF THE SENTINEL] Sir,-I agree with your contributors, "Senex" and "Old Age" that the need for more street seats in Wodonga exists. But is this entirely the responsibility of the Progress Association. Surely it would be pleasing to see some new seats with other markings that W. & D. P. A. on them. However, I can assure your contributors that if they, and others, are prepared to to come active members of the Progress Association, thereby giving it greater financial support, that there is a possibility that more seats will be installed. -Yours sincerely, WALTER G. GAMBRILL, President, Wodonga & District Progress Association. |
