News General |
20 Feb 1946 [27] |
Home Sites Resumed At One-third Cost. Residential sites at Villawood that he had struggled to pay oft and had hoped to give to his two airmen sons, had been resumed by the Housing Commission for one-third of what he had paid for them, said a Campsie baker today. He is Mr. W. S. Gambril, Beamish street, Campsie. Mr. Mr. Gambrill said he had bought three home-sites at Villawood in 1928 for £90, when the Valuer-General's valuation was £70 each. Valuation now was £30 a block ? the figure at which the Housing Commission proposed, to resume them, he said. Mr. Gambrill said he had paid £54 in rates upon the land and now stood to lose £234 on the deal not including the interest on his original loan. He had Interviewed the Valuer General on the matter and was told that he had "no hope of getting more." Hundreds Of Homes The Housing Commission has resumed several hundred home and shopping sites in the Villawood district to effect new subdivision and planning of the area. It proposes to build hundreds of homes, in the district. Mr. Gambrill said that no offer had been made to him to exchange his residential blocks for new blocks in the Housing Commission plan. |
