Richard Gambrill, a youthful resident of Morisset, wanted a young kangaroo that he might train it as a pet. After much cautious tracking he found a doe and her 'joey' grazing, and succeeded in capturing the little one. He was gleefully proceeding homeward with the 'joey' in his arms, when the doe look a foot in the affair. She attacked the boy, and with a fierce kick cut the flesh of his leg. Gambrill promptly dropped the 'joey' and hurried home, j where Dr. Wood, summoned from Dora Creek, stitched up the gash. The boy is now nursing a painful wound; and his ambition for kangaroo pets has disappeared.

IN GALE. Boat Capsized. LONG SWIM. NEWCASTLE. Tuesday. TWO young Sydney men had an unbelievable experience in yesterday's gale, when their sailing boat capsized in Lake Macquarie and they had to swim half a mile to reach the shore. The two men, one of whom is believed to be Mr. Roy Loft, a commercial artist of Sydney, who, with his friend, was spending a boating holiday at the lake, set out from Dora Creek yesterday morning in a 16ft. sailing boat, on their way down the lake to Sunshine. Between Sunshine and Rocky Point a particularly violent squall capsized the boat and the two men decided that their only chance was to swim. Were Exhausted. They reached the shore at Sunshine in an exhausted condition and one collapsed. After a rest, they borrowed two skiffs, and, accompanied by Mr. Richard Gambrill, set out to salvage their boat, which they succeeded in towing to the opposite shore. Gambrill stayed with them for several hours and late at night he set out to return to Sunshine, which he reached about 1am today. The sailing party was too exhausted to attempt the return journey last night and arrived back at Sunshine this morning.

Writing at bottom of picture seems to say "hat in hand Jim, Uncle George, Theo, Dick, Ted on Auntie Kates knee, Girl at back Nellie Traynor". Also, handwriting on the back of the picture suggests that the girl Nellie is Kate's sister. Boy on the end (far right) is John S, the eldest son.

    • He had tattoos of hounds & soldiers with weapons on both sides of his belly going all the way up over his chest and shoulders down his back with a fox tail going into his buttocks.
